SIXTH GENERATION • PART 1

Introduction
As each generation appears to explode exponentially, I've decided to make this easier for you to read, and easier for me to format, by breaking it into family sub-sets. And, between segments I'll try to bring you more information about the times in which our forebears lived. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions, so let me know if this works for you.

Sixth Generation

Family of Thomas CUSHMAN Jr. (5) & Ruth HOWLAND

From Isaac Allerton of the Mayflower: The will of Robert Cushman of Kingston Senr., yeoman, dated 9 Feb 1746/7, codicil 9 May 1749, proved 7 May 1757, names wife Prudence; sons Robert, Thomas, Joshua and Jonathan Cushman; daughters Ruth Perkins, Abigail Leonard and Hannah Washburn. The account of 4 Nov 1758 mentions a horse given to the widow.
At the age of about 80, Robert md. 2d Prudence Sherman of Marshfield, “a maiden turned of 70!

VRs from Plymouth Town Clerk’s Office, Bk. 1 • Page 54: The children of Robert Cushman and Perses his wife:
1  Robert born on the 2d of July 1698
2  Ruth born on the 25 of March 1700
3  Abigaiell born on the 3d of July 1701
   4  Hannah born Dec. 25th 1705 [sic]
   5  Thomas born Feb. 14, 1706 [sic]
   6  Joshua born Oct. 14, 1707
   7  Jonathan born the 28 July 1712

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: The compiler refers to The Mayflower Quarterly, Vol. 1, 1935 (MQ), saying: “The MQ article presents strong arguments that Persis is the Persis Lewis born in Swansea. Her birth date agrees with the age given when she died.” He cites Persis Lewis as Robert’s first wife and the mother of his 7 children; and states that she is the dau. of Thomas and Hannah (Baker) Lewis. His sources include SWANSEA VR p. 16 (b. Persis). MQ 57:330-5.

This is the most logical and persuasive argument thus far, and sufficient—with the appropriate notations—to include Persis in my documentation.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: No Plymouth Co. PR for Prudence Cushman.

I apologize for the fact that this blogger program won't accept my tab stops, decimal stops, etc., and sometimes leaves huge spaces between lines and paragraphs which are not in my original text. It's not so noticeable in my other blog, STAGE WHISPERS, because that's equal parts text and photos, but the precision required to report genealogy is sadly lacking.
