Family of Mary CUSHMAN (6) & Francis HUTCHINSON

18. Francis HUTCHINSON, 1C8R, ID6640. Born abt 1678. Francis died bef 21 Jan 1755; he was 77. Occupation: yeoman.

On 18 May 1708 when Francis was 30, he married Mary GIFFORD, ID6875, daughter of Phillip GIFFORD (perhaps JEFFORDS?), ID6876 & Mary DAVIS, ID6877, in Reading, Middlesex Co MA. Mary was born 12 Jul 1688 in Lynn, Essex Co MA, and died there 25 Jan 1769; she was 80.

They had the following children:

i. Mary, 2C7R, ID6878. Born poss abt 1710.

ii. Elizabeth, 2C7R, ID6879. Born in 1713 in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA. Living unmarried 27 Mar 1770 when she gave receipt to her sister Anna Sheldon, widow. Elizabeth was baptized in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA on 25 Oct 1713.

iii. Sarah, 2C7R, ID6880. Born in 1715 in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA, and baptized there on 23 Oct 1715. Sarah died bef 12 Apr 1756; she was 41.

iv. Anna, 2C7R, ID6881. Born in 1719 in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA, Anna was baptized there on 27 Sep 1719.

v. Thomas, 2C7R, ID6882. Thomas was baptized at Second Church in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 7 Aug 1732. 

vi. Francis, 2C7R, ID6883. Francis was baptized at Second Church in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 6 Aug 1732. Francis died bef 12 Apr 1756.

vii. Hannah, 2C7R, ID6884. Hannah was baptized at Second Church in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 24 Jun 1733.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens:  On 19 Mar 1752 Francis Hutchinson of Lynn, yeoman, sold his half of his father’s homestead, 30 acres, part in Lynn and part in Reading, to his daughter Anna Shelden, “spinster.” When the witnesses acknowledged the deed 21 Jan 1755, they stated the grantor was “since deceased.”

The inventory of the estate of Francis Hutchinson was taken 21 Mar 1755. The dower was set off to the widow 19 Jan 1756. On 12 Apr 1756 the remaining estate was settled on dau. Anna, her husband Amos Shelden giving security that he would make payments to the heirs of son Thomas and daus. Mary the wife of Samuel Newhall and Elizabeth Hutchinson.

19. Thomas HUTCHINSON, 1C8R, 6641. Born abt 1681.

Thomas married Mary COLSON, ID6885, daughter of Adam COLSON, ID6886 & Mary DASTIN, ID6887. Born abt 1685.

They had the following children:

i. Adam (Twin), 2C7R, ID6888. Born 25 Nov 1712 in Reading, Middlesex Co MA.

ii. Thomas (Twin), 2C7R, ID6889. Born 25 Nov 1712 in Reading, Middlesex Co MA, where he died on 5 Dec 1712.

iii. Thomas (Twin), 2C7R, ID6890. Born on 24 Apr 1715 in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA.

iv. Benjamin (Twin), 2C7R, ID6891. Born 24 Apr 1715 in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA.

v. Lediah, 2C7R, 6892. Born 7 May 1721 in Reading, Middlesex Co MA.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: He and Mary both living 21 Mar 1755 (acknowledged deed).

On 23 Apr 1754, acknowledged 21 Mar 1755, Thomas and Mary Hutchinson of Lynn sold to Benjamin Flint a 30-acre share of the home lot, part in Lynn and part in Reading.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: Mary Colson was 17 when Adam Hart gave bond as her guardian.

On 27 Feb 1709/10 David Colson of Boston, Adam Hart, Thomas Hutchinson and Lydia Colson of Reading deeded 12 acres in Reading which had belonged to their grandfather Josiah Dastin of Reading to Jonathan Poole. Hannah, wife of David; Eliza, wife of Adam; and Mary, wife of Thomas, renounced dower rights.

20. John HUTCHINSON, 1C8R, ID6642. Born abt 1683. John died in Malden, Middlesex Co MA on 2 Aug 1762; he was 79. Occupation: blacksmith.

John married Mary WAITE, ID6893, daughter of Samuel WAITE, ID6894 & Mehitable BUCKNAM, ID6895. Mary died on 14 Apr 1755 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA.

They had the following children:

i. Mary, 2C7R, ID6896. Born 7 Nov 1708 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA.

ii. Mehitabel, 2C7R, ID6897. Born Jan 1711/12 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA. She died there on 13 Feb 1780; she was 69 and unmarried.

iii. Sarah, 2C7R, ID6898. Born 29 Jun 1715 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA.

iv. John, 2C7R, ID6899. Born 25 Nov 1717 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA. John died there on 30 Jul 1729; he was 11.

v. Phebe, 2C7R, ID6900. Born 5 May 1724 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA. Phebe married SPRAGUE, ID6901.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: On 25 Dec 1715, acknowledged 14 May 1717, John Hutchinson of Malden sold to brother Thomas Hutchinson of Reading his half interest in a lot given him by his father Francis Hutchinson in the latter’s will, 12-1/2 acres in Reading, bording on the lot he sold to his brother Francis Hutchinson. Attached to the deed are depositions of Shubael Stearns and Nathaniel Hutchinson saying that the 60-acre home lot of the late Francis Hutchinson was partly in Lynn and partly in Reading.

The will of John Hutchinson of Malden, blacksmith, dated 4 Apr 1760, proved 6 Sep 1762, names dau. Mehitable Hutchinson; dau. Phebe Sprague; and grandson John Tufts.

Carla’s Note: It appears that either dau. Mary or dau. Sarah married a Mr. Tufts and produced at least 3 sons: John, Asa and Josiah.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: The will of Samuel Wayte of Malden dated 23 Apr 1719 names dau. Mary Hutchinson.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: The will of Mehitabel Hutchinson of Malden dated 23 Apr 1777, proved 5 Apr 1780, names sister Phebe Sprague; nephew John Tufts and the three sons of the latter (John, Asa and Josiah). 

Family of Sarah CUSHMAN (7) & John HAWKES

21. Adam HAWKES, 1C8R, ID29. Born on 12 May 1664 in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Adam died bef 8 Apr 1691, at the age 26.

Adam married Elizabeth, ID6902. Born abt 1668, Elizabeth died in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 1 Mar 1706/07; she was 38. (She had 6 children by her 2d husband, George Lilly.)

   

Adam & Elizabeth had one child:

i. John, 2C7R, ID6904. Born 10 Apr 1690 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: On 8 apr 1695 Elizabeth Hawkes was appointed guardian to her son John Hawkes. On 2 Jun 1707 John Hawkes of Lynn, son of Mr. Adam Hawkes, late of Lynn (over 14) chose his uncle John Hawkes of Lynn as guardian.

22. John HAWKES Jr., 1C8R, ID31. Born 25 Apr 1668 in Lynn, Essex Co MA. He died there bef 23 May 1750, i.e., betw. 22 Apr 1748 (deed) and 23 May 1659 (2d wife's death); he was 82. 

In Jan 1698 or 99 when John was 29, he first married Abigail FLOYD, ID6905, daughter of John FLOYD, ID6906, & Sarah DOOLITTLE, ID6907, in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Abigail was born abt 1668 in Malden, Middlesex Co MA, and died in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 19 Oct 1732; she was 64.

John second married Elizabeth SCARLET, ID6908, daughter of John SCARLET, ID6909 & Thomasina, ID6910. Born 18 Nov 1667 in Boston, Suffolk Co MA, Elizabeth died on 23 May 1750; she was 82.

They had the following children:

i. Sarah, 2C7R, ID6917. Born 14 Dec 1699 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

ii. Abigail, 2C7R, ID6918. Born 7 Jun 1701 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

iii. John, 2C7R, ID6919. Born 18 Nov 1706 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: On 22 Apr 1748 John Hawkes and wife Elizabeth signed an indenture.

No probate for John Hawkes.

The probate of the estate of Elizabeth Hawkes says she d. 23 May 1750; it was presented 13 Jul 1754.

23. Thomas HAWKES, 1C8R, 33. Born 18 May 1673 in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Thomas died bef 4 Jun 1722; he was 49.

On 16 Feb 1702/03 when Thomas was 28, he married Sarah HAVEN, ID6920, daughter of Richard HAVEN, ID6921 & Susannah, ID6922, in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Born abt 1683, Sarah died aft Mar 1748 or 49; she was 65. (According to her bro. Joseph’s will).

They had the following children:

i. Thomas, 2C7R, ID6924. Born abt 9 Sep 1708/09. Thomas died on 4 Sep 1736; he was 27 and unmarried.

  ii. Hannah, 2C7R, ID6925. Hannah married Jonathan WAITE Jr., ID6926.

iii. Jonathan, 2C7R, ID6927, was baptized in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA on 20 Sep 1719.

iv. Elkanah, 2C7R, ID6928, b. 17 Feb 1715 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

v. Sarah, 2C7R, ID6929, baptized in Wakefield, Middlesex Co MA on 20 Sep 1719. She married Benjamin GRAY, ID6930.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: The probate of Thomas Hawkes was presented 5 Oct 1736. His brothers Elkanah and Jonathan Hawkes, and Daniel Giddlings were sureties.

The estate of Thomas Hawkes was presented for probate 4 Jun 1722. The estate papers mention Sarah Hawkes, widow.

24. Mercy HAWKES, 1C8R, ID34, was born 14 Nov 1675 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

On 28 Nov 1696 when Mercy was 21, she married Capt. Nathaniel GOODHUE, ID6931, son of William GOODHUE, ID6932 & Hannah DANE, ID6933, in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Nathaniel was born on 24 Aug 1670 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA. He died there on 16 Aug 1721; he was 50.

They had the following children:

i. William, 2C7R, ID6934. Born 15 Oct 1699 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA.

ii. Sarah, 2C7R, 6935. Born 8 Feb 1701 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA.

iii. Nathaniel, 2C7R, 6936. Born 22 Nov 1702 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA. Nathaniel died there on 16 Sep 1721; he was 18.

iv. John, 2C7R, ID6937. Born 5 Jan 1707 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA.

v. Mercy, 2C7R, ID6938. Born 17 Feb 1709 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA. She died there on 12 Oct 1721; she was 12.

           vi. Elizabeth, 2C7R, ID6939. Born 1 Dec 1710 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA.

25. Ebenezer HAWKES, 1C8R, ID36. Born 7 Sep 1677 in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Died in Marblehead, Essex Co MA on 9 Dec 1766; he was 89.

Ebenezer first married Elizabeth COGSWELL, ID6940, daughter of John COGSWELL, ID6941 & Mary GIFFORD, ID6942. Born 1 Aug 1677 in Ipswich, Essex Co MA, Elizabeth died in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 16 Jun 1718; she was 40.

They had the following children:

i. Ebenezer, 2C7R, ID6952. Born 14 Jul 1702 in Lynn, Essex Co MA.

On 30 May 1719 when Ebenezer was 41, he second married Sarah BASSETT, ID6943, daughter of William BASSETT, ID6944 & Sarah HOOD, ID6945, in Lynn, Essex Co MA. Born in Lynn on 6 Dec 1676, Sarah died in Marblehead, Essex Co MA on 27 Mar (or May) 1732; she was 55. 

On 9 Nov 1732 when Ebenezer was 55, he third married Ruth PHILLIPS, ID6948, daughter of Walter PHILLIPS, ID6949 & Ruth PURCHASE, ID6950, in Boston, Suffolk Co MA. Ruth was born abt 1686, and died in Lynn, Essex Co MA on 15 Jan 1760; she was 74.

From Isaac Allerton of the MF...4 Gens: The will of Ebenezer Hawkes of Marblehead dated 29 Jun 1765, proved 3 Feb 1767, names dau. Elizabeth Griffin and her husband Joseph; three grandchildren Benjamin Griffin, Ebenezer Griffin and Elizabeth Griffin; grandchildren, children of son Ebenezer dec.; son Samuel Hawkes and grandsons Ebenezer and Joseph Hawkes, sons of Samuel they paying their brothers and sisters viz.: John Hawkes, Matthew Hawkes; Philadelphia Hawkes; Sarah, Deliverance and Patience.
